Yay, you're back!! How was it?? Monie said you were fed lots...
Oh, our physics hat from payton is next thursday now, instead of after half term
I agree that Nuclear FISSION (The proces they currently use in Nulcear power station, con sisting of spliting U-235 Atoms to produce energy) does indeed cause depleeted nuclear waste mainly (Pl-238, U-233 and U-232)....
Howerver:
They are currently develepoping Nuclear FUSION, which is the complete oppsosite of the FISSION process. (Nuclear FUSION uses the same process that mother nature display to us every day life, the sun. They procees involves Fusing two "Heavy" Hydrodgen (Deuterium) atoms to form one Helium atom: 2/1H + 2/1H = 4/2He + 1/0n OR 3/1H + 2/1H = 4/2He + 1/0n When using Tritium which is Hydrogen possesing 1 proton and 3 neutron)
Ontop of that, nuclear fusion is almost self sustaining (Technically it isn't because of the energy conservation theory, howerver it can go on for a VERY long time).
It's also clean! It does not require the CO2 imetting Uranium enrichment process and the result of the Fusion process is clean Helium and one Neutron.
Finaly the enrgy output of one fusion reaction of one fusion action is = 17.6MeV Which is much more that Nuclear Fission... and anything else ever made by man for this matter! lol
Nuclear Fusion has been regarded as the "Holy Grale" of energy production and even thoug it hasn't been fully developed yet, there is an international project called EFDA (European Fusion Development Agreement) and trust me... their VERY CLOSE to getting it right!
I should know... my parent's house in France is less than 60 miles from the testing site which is located in Bordeaux...
So there you have it... With time Nuclear technology may be the answer after all...
P.S. The process of Fusion is done using Plasma... This mean the the process would be visualy spectacular and pritty to watch.
*cough* Well... I think that it's good anyay.... ¬¬;
I attended a Lecture about Nuclear Fusion yesterday at University College London by Dr Warrick. If you wish to find out more, I'll send you some photocopies of the notes I did! Trust me! It Fasinating an AMAZING!
